Margaritas and BBQ
Current mood: breezy
Category: Friends
Okay, so this is the Margarita blog I've been promising everyone for over a week now.

Most of my friends and family will already know how much I LOVE margaritas!!! Unfortunately, it's really hard to find Mexican Food in England and when you do it mostly consists of nachos and fajitas. However, we did find this really cool place in Covent Garden a couple of years ago run by some Australians. Oh dear, the burden of a wandering mind.

Back to the point - sort of - I have spent the last 7 1/2 years searching for a good margarita in England. Who would have ever guessed that it would come from my own kitchen. Gary and I have been working on our Margarita recipe for ages now. When our friends, Julie and Richard Milliner invited us over for a BBQ (despite the cloudy damp weather) we decided to use them as our test victims. They enthusiastically agreed to participate. I'm not sure Julie had even had a margarita before, bless her heart.. With their help we are now completely happy with our current margarita recipe. The downside of being really happy with your margaritas is that you drink way too many margaritas and I'm pretty sure they're just not on my diet at all.

Richard, who is really a hard rock man, plays in a band on the weekends, even graciously listened to some country music off my iPod. They really liked some of Trace Adkins' lively numbers and as Gary is currently very much into Lady Antebellum (who isn't?), he asked to hear some of their stuff. So an English BBQ had a definite American vibe. We had a lot of fun entertaining Richard with stories of Rocklahoma. I think he could be there!! So look out, Okies!

We consumed a ridiculous amount of Tequila...I have absolutely no intention of divulging the exact quantity but a grand time was had by all. I've already posted the photos. Julie and Richard provided the food and it was absolutely fabulous!!!

And now for the RECIPES (there are two, as we recently discovered a pretty good Strawberry Margarita recipe, as well):

Robin's Margarita Recipe

3 parts tequila (we have found that silver tequila is really best for margaritas)
2 parts lime juice (we juice the limes in a food processor, but a manual juicer would work - just more time consuming)
2 parts Triple Sec or Contreau or if your feeling really extravagant Grand Marnier (Triple Sec is really hard to find here, so we are currently using Cointreau, but we did experiment with 1 part Triple Sec and 1 part Grand Marnier and it turned out pretty good.)

Put the lot into a cocktail shaker with a lot of ice, shake well, strain into glasses. Needless to say, you can turn it into a frozen margarita by throwing the ingredients into a blender with a lot of ice and turn on said blender.

Strawberry Margaritas

1 punnet Strawberries (250 g or about 1 cup)
150 ml tequila (a little over 1/2 cup)
55 ml orange liqueur (1/4 cup)
2 limes (juice of)
12 ice cubes
3 tbs sugar

Liquidize strawberries with sugar
Add rest of ingredients and blend

I would so like to take credit for the Strawberry Margarita recipe but in all actuality, I pretty much stole it from the following web site (minus the the frosting sugar)

Now it's your turn to share your favorite margarita recipe!

Not a great photo of me (what's going on with those bangs/fringe in UKspeak) but I wanted you to see the margarita!!

Hasta Luego, amigas and amigos!
